DISCLAIMER! these are all my own poems,
please give credit if you share.
my own universe was you
whatever this was
and whatever you were,
i'd endlessly write and sing
about the fallen stars
i put in your name.
about the moon and all it's parts
i forgot under your hand.
the moon heard me
under the yellow of starry sunsets
i’d whisper in the moon’s ear,
“lead me where the light doesn’t burn,
and the rain doesn’t freeze”.
i’d beg for a hand to hold,
somewhere to rest without fear.
and that night when i peeked out the window
to stare at the stars,
point out the constellations,
your voice on the other end of the line
took away the cold autumn air.
silently, i looked for the moon -
to thank her once more -
she led me to you.
i named a hurricane after you
you were my hurricane,
i knew so ever since i felt the wind blow
and i heard the little whispers in my head.
though at the time
the whispers i trusted less
as i had learned you would keep me warm,
you were the perfect storm.
the delightful calmness in between the danger,
the dandelions swinging after your lead.
you had a light in you
that even blindness couldn't block.
in the dark of the night
i'd wish to see through your fog
to see straight ahead,
maybe it would have convinced me
of those whispers i never held dear.
but i couldn't exactly shake
the depth of the seas i swam for your love,
the length of the roads i ran for a hug.
you were half of my heart,
half of what i called my art.
and a soul like mine wouldn't have expected
to be rid of a soul like yours,
not yet today.
the universe left no warning,
and your goodbye was harder than the pain,
the pain of this hurricane that holds
the same name as you.
true strength
you need to ignite the power
that your soul is trying so hard
to drown.
you need to take that step forwards,
even if it brings to you fear.
darling,
you'll never win in this world
unless you're ready to lose,
and you cannot rise
unless you're prepared to fall.
trust me or never do you?
wished away the rest of who i could never be,
reflection in the mirror -
am i listening to who you swore to be,
or who i pray to god you can never make me?
colour my world
shades of blue,
cover me in oceans,
waves more powerful
than what exists in my head.
overcome my demons,
paint them indigo,
wipe away the red.
make it all shine blue
and i'll colour yours
in the green of your eyes.
call it a gut feeling
i trusted my own instincts
even when they told me to die,
so for a while i did
until they told me to live
again.
my magic
magic always did exist,
and to me
it was you.
you were magic.
in it's simplest and in it's most complex form,
you were sparkles and fairy dust,
you were sizzles and rage,
everything that humans could not touch.
society tells me this
stop leaving your sentences unfinished,
begin writing about the pain,
starvation will only bring you more rain.
there’s more to the ways your words ignite,
take the grace from your heart,
and make it all into a book
you’ll never love.
